Planting Instructions

Njama Njama can be grown by starting seeds in trays or by direct sowing in the garden.

Option 1: Direct Sow (Broadcast Method)

This is the traditional and easiest way to grow Njama Njama.

  1. Prepare a loose, well-drained garden bed.
  2. Lightly broadcast (scatter) the seeds over the soil surface.
  3. Cover lightly with about ¼ inch of soil or compost.
  4. Water gently and keep the soil consistently moist during germination.
  5. Seeds usually germinate in 7–10 days in warm soil.

Once seedlings emerge, thin plants to about 8–12 inches apart if you want larger plants. You can also leave them closer together if you plan to harvest young leaves frequently.


Option 2: Start in Seed Trays

  1. Fill small pots or seed trays with quality potting mix.
  2. Plant seeds about ¼ inch deep.
  3. Keep soil lightly moist.
  4. Seeds typically germinate in 7–10 days in warm conditions.
  5. Transplant seedlings once they are 4–6 inches tall.
